Fighting Fear

What do you think fear is?
<Fear> is a complex term. It’s a scary term. It is a four letter word that encompasses many feelings and emotions. And the unfortunate reality is that we all, in some capacity, experience it. We react to it differently, but we share in the fact that, at some point in our lives, we find it.
The question is, how do we react to it?
You see fear is not black and white, in fact it is very much grey. What one may consider scary another may not and what one may react to with anxiety another may react to with joy. Fear is <sneaky> and fear is a <liar>.
Fear is a tactic to overwhelm us and the devil uses it to his benefit on the daily. He constantly uses fear to scare us, push us, and make us question who we are and who God is. He uses fear to lie to us about who we are, what we are and what God is capable of. As a follower of Christ we must challenge fear. We must call fear out for what it is and turn the lies into truths. We must choose to take fear by the horns and reign it in therebye not letting it control us. We must remember when we talk about fear that it is real and it is hard. BUT God is real, strong, and much much bigger.
So, how can we tackle it? It <is not simple>, in fact it, for some of us, it is a <daily battle> but by the providence of the Lord it is possible. So the first step - RECOGNIZE that you can’t do it, only God through you can. Be TRANSPARENT - acknowledge that there may be things in your life that you need to change (sins that need to be confessed, habits that need to be stopped, people that need to be spoken with) and act on the things the Lord tells you to change. SUBMIT to the will of God and be flexible enough that whatever He says goes [the minute you think you can do life on your own is the minute fear leaks its way in and hangs on tight]. COMMIT - commit to daily, diligent time with God. As a follower of the Lord you should want to and you need to spend time with your Father. Prayer is your channel of direct communication, where you can pour your heart out to the Lord and He in turn can comfort you and love on you. Bible study is your way of heeding the voice of the Lord and learning how to tackle this life He has given you with the resources He entrusted to you.
The key to battling fear is to realize that it is bigger than you, and it always will be. You need someone bigger to help you battle fear and live life and that person is God. Do you have Him?
Fear is something you WILL experience but will you be ready for it?
If you follow the Lord and have a relationship with Him then you can find comfort in what is above, and I encourage you to do that. Evaluate your walk with God and choose to allow his Love to cast out all lies caused by fear. Put fear to rest.
But if you don’t have a relationship with the Lord you can’t do that. The reality is you will continue to live in fear and you will continue to run to temporary fixes (drugs, sex, alcohol) that won’t work. You will continue a vicious cycle of hurt and failure. Why? Because you are running to things that can’t and won’t save you. You are putting your trust in the wrong things and those very things are just feeding the lies of fear and in reality making it worse.
I encourage you to evaluate your life, and run to the Lord with arms wide open. God created this world and you BECAUSE HE CARES ABOUT YOU. He lived a life on earth and faced ridicule and torture BECAUSE HE LOVES YOU. He died on a cross BECAUSE HE WANTS TO SAVE YOU. God desires you to love Him and desires for your life to be lived in accordance with his Word.
You - regardless of your past or present struggles - can know what it means to love God and have a relationship with Him. You can be saved. You can find comfort in life, safety and security in fearful situations, and contentment in trial. You just have to relinquish your control on your life and allow the Creator of this world to be in control. Let go - Let God. Live.
Much love friends,
Kayla
